Viewstation FX & VS4000

The Viewstation FX and VS4000 were introduced as the flagship models of the Viewstation range. They offer more horsepower than the regular Viewstation, with connection speeds of up to 2MB over IP, and, over ISDN either 512k using BRI or 2Mb with the PRI interface. 4-way multipoint is included as standard, working over either ISDN and/or IP being able to mix calls over each type of network.

H.264 is included as standard with newer models and is available as an optional extra with older FXs and VS4000s, giving compatibility with the latest video standards and providing much improved video quality on low bandwidth calls.

The FX followed the regular Viewstation set-top box approach, whilst the VS4000 is a rack-mount unit with seperate components; perfect for integration into bespoke meeting room furniture. Both have XGA graphics support and excellent connectivity options for additional monitors, cameras, recorders etc.

The Polycom Viewstation EX is a good alternative to the FX - it has the same engine as the FX & VS4000 but was introduced as an entry-level FX. It comes with H.264, multipoint is optional, it doesn't support a PRI ISDN interface and has fewer camera and monitor options.

These were all current models until early 2006 and represent an excellent way of getting the best boardroom quality, standard definition videoconferencing at low prices.
